There are some things employers (and this includes churches as the 'employers' of volunteers) must do, by law, to keep children safe. Forms are unavoidable. The best way to use the NSW government Working With Children Check forms is to complete them online, using the web forms provided then print and keep a copy. The website www.kids.nsw.gov.au has been redesigned and is easy to navigate.
Everyone planning to be involved as a leader in a church kids program or as an SRE teacher, must complete a Working with Children Check before they start. The copies of the signed forms must be kept securely in the church files.
Everyone wanting to teach SRE needs to sign the 2012 SRE Teachers Engagement Form (download). In the case of Baptists in NSW a copy is sent to the Baptist Ministry centre who issue the authorisation (green) card as the government Approved Provider.
All Unpaid SRE teachers need to sign the Volunteer/Student declaration. (This was previously Attachment 4 now done online www.kids.nsw.gov.au)
